QSFP-40G-SR4-C Cisco | 40GBASE SFP+ SR | Transceiver

The Quad (4-channel) (often abbreviated as QSFP or QSFP+) is a compact, hot-pluggable transceiver used for data communications applications. It interfaces a network device motherboard (for a switch, router, media converter or similar device) to a fiber optic cable. QSFP are compliant with the QSFP+ MSA and IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-LR4. Digital diagnostics functions are available via an I2C interface, as specified by the QSFP+ MSA. The QSFP transceiver is RoHS-6 compliant and lead-free.

It is an industry format jointly developed and supported by many network component vendors, allowing data rates from 4x10 Gbit/s. The format specification is evolving to enable higher data rates; as of May 2013, highest possible rate is 4x28 Gbit/s.
QSFP modules increase the port-density by 3x-4x compared to SFP+ modules. QSFP+ Modules supports link lengths of 100m and 150m respectively on laseroptimized OM3 and OM4 multimode fiber cables. It primarily enables high-bandwidth 40G optical links over 12-fiber ribbon cables terminated with MPO/MTP multi-fiber connectors. It can also be used in 4x10G mode along with ribbon to duplex fiber breakout cables for connectivity to four 10GBASE-SR optical interfaces.
